• The Culture Global Stocktake for Climate Action is a global, participatory process to assess how culture is already contributing to climate action ﹣and how it could do much more.

In UN climate terms, a Global Stocktake is how the world collectively checks progress on the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake concluded at COP28. But there’s a major gap: culture is still largely absent from climate policy frameworks, despite shaping values, behaviors, narratives, and systems of care.

  • The Culture Global Stocktake responds to this blind spot by asking:

    • Where is culture already accelerating  climate action?

    • Where is it being overlooked, underfunded, or excluded?

    • What evidence, policies, and frameworks are needed to embed culture into climate mitigation, adaptation, and equity?

The outcome will be the first-ever Culture Global Stocktake for Climate Action: a consensus-based policy document assessing impacts, gaps, opportunities, and concrete pathways for integrating culture into UNFCCC processes﹣including future Global Stocktakes.

  • Consultations are a core pillar of a global, participatory process to assess how culture, cultural heritage, and the creative industries are contributing to climate action. Organizers and practitioners are encouraged to collectively assess how the role of culture can be strengthened within UNFCCC processes, including Decision 19/CMA.1: Modalities of the Global Stocktake, the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), or the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) (CMA.7).

A Culture Global Stocktake Consultation is a self-organized, facilitated dialogue that gathers:

    • Evidence, recommendations, and perspectives from cultural practitioners and/or their affiliations/organizations

    • Policy-relevant insights aligned with UNFCCC processes and language

    • Proposed findings, sectoral best practices, or draft statements

    • Existing organizational processes and/or internal policy positions

You can access comprehensive guidelines on hosting your own consultation on this page.

  • The Culture Global Stocktake is a decentralized process spearheaded by the Entertainment + Culture Pavilion with funding from the Youth Climate Justice Fund.

  • Do you want to host your own consultation? Do you have funding or resources to contribute to the initiative?
